Year 9 News – 22 August 2024
19/08/2024With the term half over, Year 9s have now finished subject selection and are looking forward to their upcoming camp. The Bendigo Tech School visits wind up this week, with each advocate group now having had the opportunity to attend and complete tasks associated with the Human Body, its systems and operations and also experience associated careers. Below are some student comments:
‘When we went to the Tech School, we had a lot of different activities and equipment to use. We had Dan around to help us with all the equipment. We were happy that we were able to use the VR headsets for a kind of work experience, to simulate what our future jobs could possibly be like. We are so fortunate that we were able to use this equipment to help us with future job choices and experiences.”
‘I enjoyed the Tech School. We were using VR headsets to look inside the human body. I learnt a lot by doing this.”
“Tech School was a really good experience; we got to use lots of different equipment and learn new skills.”
“When we went to the Tech School, there were a lot of different activities to do and lots of engaging equipment like the CPR dummies, VR headsets and simulation dummies. They kept all of us engaged and wanting to come back. The activity that I enjoyed the most was the VR headsets. They were a good way to explain different career pathways, provide information and still be enjoyable.”
‘I enjoyed using the VR headsets. They are very realistic and it was a really cool experience. It showed a very detailed image of the human body. I learnt a lot through this.”
Year 9s are reminded that, to keep belongings secure, they should have and use a lock on their assigned locker. We have unfortunately had some reports of students interfering with other people’s belongings. This can be very distressing for students targeted, however can be avoided if all lockers have locks as required. All students were assigned an individual locker at the start of the year, so no students should be sharing.
Congratulations to our Year 9 Leaders who have arranged a 5v5 Basketball Tournament, to be held in the last two weeks of term. Students are encouraged to sign up via SIMON. Prizes will include canteen vouchers, chocolate/lollies and CMCB merchandise. We look forward to seeing the teams’ students put together.
