Year 9 Camp and News – 19 September 2024
18/09/2024The Year 9 Camp took place in the first week of September following our Encounter morning, which included a Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral and various activities within Student Advocate Groups. During the Encounter morning, students explored the theme of gratitude and wrote letters to their future selves. Unfortunately, our guest speaker was unable to attend and the first group experienced a one-day delay due to inclement weather. However, they joined the next camp and all remaining camps proceeded successfully, receiving positive feedback from leaders, students and staff. We extend our gratitude to everyone involved in the planning and execution of this camp, which provided valuable experiences, challenges and lasting memories for all participants.
Some student accounts and thanks:
“Thanks to staff for organising this camp for us. I enjoyed it a lot and have heard from others who liked it a lot – everyone had a great time. It was good that we had some independence in choosing our own groups and cooking our food. I loved the activities that were challenging and stepped me outside my comfort zone. The activities with out class at Encounter Day were fun, so thank you so much for this.” (Chelsea)
“Thank you for camp, we really enjoyed spending time with friends and chatting around the campfire. We also enjoyed the canoeing.” (Elsie & Kiara)
“Just wanted to say how good camp was and we know how much background stuff staff do. It is deeply appreciated that without staff we wouldn’t have gone, and we loved it.” ( Lexie)
“Thank you for planning the camp and also for going on the camp with us. We appreciate the time, effort and hard work you had to do to plan the camp, including leaving your family and going on camp with us. We all had a good time and loved the camp loads.” (Grace & Madi)
Seeds of Justice Camp
We had three Year 9 participants attend the Mercy Seeds of Justice Camp at Anglesea – Sebastian Dove, Maddie De Haan and Ruby Bath. They spoke at our assembly, providing an insight into activities and the opportunity to mix with like-minded students to discuss social justice issues faced by people in the world today.
