Activities

Positive feedback from staff around student engagement in class has been encouraging to hear. We have also seen a number of Year 8 students participating in the Knitting Club, Junior Band, lunchtime library activities and attending sports trials and training teams since the beginning of the term. It is terrific to see students take up these co-curricular opportunities.

Expectations

We continue to have a small group of students who are needing support to wear the correct uniform and get to classes on time. Students are reminded that drawing on arms, legs or workbooks is not appropriate. Students are asked to see their Student Advocate if they have any questions about expectations.

Achievement

Three Year 8s have been invited to participate in the first of two days of the Reach Foundation Grounded Program this week. This foundation established by Jim Stynes (former AFL player) supports young people of different ages to investigate what they want from life and helps provide opportunities to set goals. We wish Hudson Samuel, Archie Stevens and Zane Cauchi well as they engage in this program.

Learning News

Languages – French: Year 8 students studying French have been working on French words for common household pets. They have been learning how to express likes and dislikes, and reasons for having these opinions. They have also expanded the range of adjectives that they use to describe animals and other nouns. Following the completion of this students will be studying the topic of families.

Health and Physical Education: Students are currently participating in the Sports Education in Physical Education Program (SEPEP). Students are assigned a role in their year-level AFL community over a period of weeks where a round robin is played. Roles include Coach, Team Manager, Administration, Scorer/Statistician, Captain, Head Umpire and Goal Umpire. Students will be rotating each fortnight, completing tasks associated with each role. This program provides insight into how committees and community sports are run and will provide students with relevant skills for undertaking future roles.

English: Visits to the Bendigo Tech School commence this week. Each Student Advocate group will attend for one day over Weeks 4 to 6. English classes will do some preliminary work with students using an issue that has been explored in the current unit (e.g., ‘Zoos are good for animals’, ‘Banning plastic straws’) to create a storyboard that explores the issue. Parents and carers are reminded to check Parent Access Module (PAM) to complete consent for their child’s participation in this activity on the assigned date.
