Year 8 Camp 2025 – Anglesea
28/03/2025Year 8 students will travel to Anglesea for their coastal environmental program, where they experienced beach activities, environmental studies, mountain biking and outdoor challenges designed to build resilience and cooperation. They also had the opportunity to explore the local ecosystems. Thank you to Adley and Lahni who have shared their reflections on camp.
Mrs Kim Greenwell and Mr Josh Hann, Year Level Coordinators – Year 8
At Year 8 Camp there were lots of fun and enjoyable activities; for some of these activities we had to go outside of our comfort zones, to push ourselves to complete our activities. Some of the more exciting activities were mountain bike riding, where we had to follow a track to the top of a hill that had a stunning view. Once we had finished taking in the view, we set off down the hill back to the camp. Surfing was a new experience to most of the students that attended the camp. Lots of people struggled to stand up for long times, while others were looking like professionals. The giant swing got your heart racing by lifting you 18 metres up in the air, then pulling a cord to release yourself and start swinging until you stopped at the bottom. The Year Level Coordinators worked hard to accommodate all of the students’ needs. We gave the YMCA staff a big thank you for their efforts then departed on our bus back to Bendigo. (Adley Booker, Year 8)
I found Year 8 Camp in Anglesea great fun and a very adventurous camp that everyone could enjoy. There were so many activities and experiences, giving us a chance to try new things that we had never thought about doing. Personally, I found the surfing the most enjoyable because it was something that you don’t get to do very often, and the weather was perfect for it. For the night activities, there was something for everyone to do – you could go on a night walk, get cozy and watch a movie, watch the footy, do some arts and crafts and lastly play a fun game of gaga in the gaga pit. And lastly, I want to thank the YMCA leaders for helping us have such an enjoyable Year 8 camp where we all made so many good memories! (Lahni Tyrrell, Year 8)
