On 16 October, the Year 7 Boys Cricket Team hosted Bendigo South East College (BSE) for the Sandhurst title playoff.
After winning the toss, BSE elected to bowl, sending CMCB in to bat first. Top-order batsmen Miller Polglase and Tarkyn Ralphs worked hard against some quality bowling, setting the foundation for a solid score. At the halfway point, the score was 1-49 after 10 overs. As the team started to increase the run rate, the consistent fall of wickets slowed the momentum however, some late fireworks from Louis Travaglia pushed the score to 99 at the end of the 20 overs.
The boys faced a tough challenge against some very talented BSE batters. Chances were being created but none were taken, and suddenly the score stood at 0-70 at the halfway mark. The boys’ bowling improved after a much-needed drinks break, but BSE surpassed the score before CMCB could take control, securing the win.
BSE lost seven wickets for just twenty runs after exceeding the target, leaving the final score at 7-119. Although disappointed by missed early opportunities, the team will gain valuable lessons from this game.
