Year 7 Boys

On Friday 6 September, the Year 7 Boys Soccer team competed in the State Soccer Finals at the Darebin International Sports Centre in Melbourne. Straight off the bus, the boys were greeted with exceptionally strong winds that would definitely affect the game.

Game 1 vs Albert Park Secondary College
In the first game, the boys got off to a slow start despite kicking with the wind and before long they had conceded the first goal of the day. From there however the boys started to settle and for the rest of the half, the game turned into an arm wrestle.

With a goal deficit, the boys knew they had some work to do into the wind. They started the second half a little more fired up but still struggled to maintain possession against a strong Albert Park team. A failed clearance resulted in a second goal being conceded. The team had a few chances late to even the game up but just couldn’t manage to find the back of the net, and lost the game 2-0.

Best: Jimi Read, Memphis Slattery, Simon Bu

Game 2 vs Brunswick Secondary College
After an hour and twenty minutes rest, the boys were slow to start again and conceded the first goal again within the first minute of the game. This goal woke the boys up and saw them wrestle momentum back for the rest of the game. Only in the final two minutes was Jimi Read able to follow in a through ball and level the game up. Both teams had a chance to win it within the last few minutes but not before the final whistle blew, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Best: Jimi Read (1 goal), Christian Martin, Fletcher Stevenson

Game 3 vs Ballarat High School
The team was determined to start the final game on the front foot, and their vigour was evident immediately as Jimi Read opened the scoring within the first few minutes. From that moment onwards the floodgates were opened and CMCB dominated with some beautifully free-flowing soccer that Ballarat struggled to handle. The magnets were thrown around in the second half and the scoring continued with the boys dominating the entire thirty minutes to end the day on a high with a 7-0 win.

Goals: Jimi Read (4), Jack Rees (1), Jacob Kendal (1), Kohan Carmichael (1)
Best: Jimi Read, Jack Rees, Rafael Bourke

The team played with exceptional skill and sportsmanship throughout all three stages. Assistant Coaches, Xavier Douglas and Harry Canny were instrumental in coaching and refereeing throughout the day. The team should be proud of their run and how they played the game.

Thanks also to all the parents and supporters who came along to cheer the team on whenever, and wherever the boys played. Your support was greatly appreciated.
