Cricket Final – Year 7
Year 7 Boys
On 18 October, the Year 7 Boys cricket team took the short journey to Club Court in Strathfieldsaye to compete at the Loddon Mallee Region stage against St Joseph’s College Echuca.
After losing the toss, the boys were sent into bat where Jaxon Kelly and Charlie Macumber made a positive start, rotating the strike and putting the bad balls away. The middle order of Quinlan Cody, Tayte Frawley and Ari Sawyer saw the total rise to 86 from our 20 overs. Jaxon Kelly (26) & Quinlan Cody (14) were the pick of the batters.
St Joseph’s were chasing 87 for victory, opener Ari Sawyer did the damage early, claiming the first two wickets of the game. Tayte Frawley and Quinlan Cody controlled the ball beautifully in the middle overs, putting the pressure on the St Joseph’s batters. With the game tightening up towards the end, St Josphs needed 22 off 24 balls with three wickets in hand but the boys found another gear and took the last three wickets for only 4 runs resulting in an 18-run victory to CMC. The best bowlers were Tayte Frawley (3/4) and Quinlan Cody (2/8) with Keelan McInerney starring in the field with two diving catches.
The match was played in excellent spirits and the boys showcased impressive teamwork and sportsmanship. CMC will progress to the State Quarter Finals on Thursday 16 November.

Year 7 Girls
The Year 7 Girls cricket team played their first cricket match against St Mary of the Angels Secondary College Nathalia in the Loddon Mallee Region stage. The weather on the day was perfect for cricket.
It was pleasing to see the girls enjoy themselves, with many of them having their first taste of cricket and using all the protective gear. The girls played Stage 1 rules which allows them all to face a certain number of balls without having to go out if they happen to get given out and four runs are awarded to the opposition per wicket taken. Each team has an innings of 20 overs and the bowling is shared by all players.
We were able to take 7 wickets on the day, however, so did our opposition. In the end, it came down to runs and unfortunately, we were not able to get as many runs on the board.
The best batters on the day were Mia Cox (15 runs) and Zara Mould (9 runs). Macey Pinner and Zara Mould were excellent as our wicket-keepers. Our wicket takers were Mia Behrens (3 wickets), Mia Cox (1 wicket), Molly Beasley (1 wicket), Bella Cail (1 wicket) and Imogen Brown (1 wicket).
TEAM L-R: Mrs Rachel Winfield (Coach), Molly Beasley, Macey Pinner, Eva Grant, Sophie Healy, Imogen Brown, Bella Cail, Mia Cox, Mia Behrens, Zara Mould
