Year 11 at Camp Alexandra

20/02/2024

6 – 7 FEBRUARY 2024

Early Tuesday morning all the Year 11s were out of bed, ready to get on the buses at school to head to Camp Alexandra. After a 2-hour bus trip we arrived at beautiful views of the hills and wide-open space. After being greeted by the friendly staff and being welcomed to country, we started our activities. Outdoor laser tag was fun as we played different variations of the game, such as capture the flag. The gentleman running the laser tag had a very cute and friendly dog. We then had the opportunity to swim in the pool. While some were swimming others played gaga ball, which was a blast. Then we attended the Reach program. It was a moment in time we will all remember, as it made us think about our actions, how we treat others and how we can change to become a better person. Students showed courage sharing their personal experiences for us all to acknowledge and learn from as we grow into young adults. We learned how to change our habits, listen to others and change our relationships with others in a positive way.

The kitchen staff cooked us a delicious dinner with dessert. We then moved into nighttime activities such as trivia questions, ranging from famous people to animal facts or sports. Mr Angove sang us songs for the ‘guess the song round’ which ended up encouraging students to sing and dance.  Other activities shared that night were playing soccer on the soccer pitch and sitting around the campfire talking with others. Everyone was doing something they enjoyed with the people they enjoy spending time with.

After a rough sleep with the fire alarm being set off twice in the early hours of the morning, we were all up for breakfast. Before leaving we participated in our last two activities for the camp. The flying fox across the lake was exciting and such an exhilarating experience. The high ropes course was fun and scary at the same time for all who participated. Even though some people fell they used their courage to climb back up, while their peers were zooming through the high ropes course. Finally, we were all loaded back onto the buses to head home. Camp Alexandra was fun for all and a great opportunity to build friendships.
