Year 10 Work Experience Insights

01/06/2023

From 15 to 19 May, sixty Year 10 students took the opportunity to explore the world of work in diverse and varied industries.  This valuable program allows students to build job-seeking connections, develop their understanding of the local labour market and put employability skills into practice.

Students completed logbooks as a requirement of their placement and provided feedback on various aspects of their working week.

When Holly Neilson at Yo Yo Music was asked to describe the most valuable things learned during the work placement she said, “ I have learned how to work in a fast-paced environment through attending events and talking to others. It was eye-opening to see the behind-the-scenes process in this industry.”

Daniel Pinder at Bare Automation said he would recommend the placement to others. “It was a good experience with a boss who did a wide variety of jobs so I could get a feel for everything.”

Mikaela Monzon at St John of God Hospital was able to observe and learn new skills and when asked to give an example of using technology wrote, “ I was taught how to use the special hearing devices that midwives use to assess babies’ hearing. The device is able to track the babies’ brain wave patterns.”

Karla Donegan, who attended Maiden Gully Primary School, rated the placement a 10 out of 10 and said, “it has encouraged me to consider a possible career in teaching”.

A huge thanks to all the organisations who welcomed students into the workplace and thank you to the Catherine McAuley College staff who visited students in their workplaces.
