Watching ‘Oedipus the King’ Deepens Understanding for Year 12 English Students

20/08/2024

On Friday 2 August, our Units 3 and 4 English students had the valuable opportunity to watch a live performance of Sophocles’ Oedipus the King. The touring theatre company, Complete Works, brought this classic Greek tragedy to life in our Marian Theatre. It was a great chance for our students to engage with the play as they are busily preparing for their upcoming SAC as part of their VCE English studies.

“On Friday afternoon we had the pleasure of watching a live play of Oedipus the King, the Greek play that the Year 12 students are studying at the moment. The play was very entertaining and the actors were great. Seeing a live version of the play we’ve been reading really helped us to gain a deeper understanding of the plot and characters. Once the play had finished, the actors answered lots of questions that were very helpful for our studies. Overall, I think the play was a very positive experience, and what we learned from it will pay off in the SAC.” (Mia Bartlett & Ayva Billett, Year 12)
