Victorian Schools Music Festival 2024

Forty-five of our student musicians, accompanied by Ms Deb Ross and Mrs Meg Martin, travelled to Christian College Geelong to compete against concert bands from across the state at the Victorian Schools Music Festival on Wednesday 14 August.

The Catherine McAuley College Bendigo (CMCB) Junior Concert Band, directed by Mrs Meg Martin, delivered a crowd-pleasing performance of We Will Rock You and Against The Storm, with the latter item being their set criteria work. They received wonderful critique from the Chief Adjudicator, Mr Nick Matherine, particularly highlighting their sense of ensemble and excellence in presentation and stage etiquette.

Our Senior Concert Band, directed by Ms Deb Ross, also performed incredibly well, making a big sound for a modest-sized band. Their presentation of Mars by Gustav Holst was a rousing example of intricate rhythm work and sophisticated timing. Their set work, Encanto by Robert W Smith, was also commended for the sense of style and delivery. Like the Junior Concert Band, the Senior Concert Band were also commended for the excellent presentation and musicianship, being awarded Silver in their category.

Congratulations to all of the students and staff involved – they represented the College so very well and were complimented by the staff of other schools for their conduct.
