VCE Art Making and Exhibiting Melbourne Trip

26/03/2024

Students viewed a variety of art galleries and exhibition spaces for their VCE Art Making and Exhibiting subject when they travelled to Melbourne on Thursday 21 March.

ACCA Public Art Tour

Students participated in a walking tour of public artworks to gain insight into the role that such artworks play in our cities. This was run by an artist educator from the Australian Centre of Contemporary Art (ACCA). The viewed the work called Vault and Forward Surge.

Buxton Contemporary

Students toured the contemporary art exhibition Around at Buxton Contemporary, an art gallery established in 2014 by a financial gift, with 300 artworks donated to the University of Melbourne. The works were a showcase from local Melbourne painter, Nadine Christensen. It was here that students were exposed to how to ‘push’ the preconceived ideas of what art can be. We are appreciative of the insights shared by Joseph, who led the tour.

National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Triennial

The final stop was the NGV Triennial. This exhibition included a broad range of art projects that challenged students to consider how art and design impact ideas and thinking in our contemporary world.

Following this trip, students will work in classes to prepare their own work, for presentation in an exhibition for the wider school community in the final few weeks of Semester 1. If you know someone studying this art subject, I encourage you to ask them the insights they gained form their recent trip.

Thank you to Mrs Amy Dickins who supported the trip.
