MJSP Welcomes VACSAL Junior Football and Netball Carnivals
03/10/2024The Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct at Coolock Campus hosted the Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Association (VACSAL) Junior Football and Netball Carnivals at our Coolock Campus from 25 – 26 September. We were delighted to welcome so many players and their families from near and far!
A total of 61 netball teams and 32 football teams represented communities from all corners of the state at Under 9, 12, 15 and 17 levels. Crowds were estimated at around 3,500 each day at this exciting, family-friendly event.
A highlight on Day 1 was a special visit by three of the Australian Diamonds Netball Team before their third and final test match against the England Roses in Bendigo.
This carnival is for all Aboriginal communities of Victoria, providing an opportunity to gather and participate in friendly competition in a healthy and safe environment.
The Football Carnival was played on four of the ovals, with a highlight being the billiard table surface of Finn Oval. The Netball Carnival ran on the indoor Conway Courts, the two new outside netball courts and the undercover court.
Congratulations to all who participated and everyone who came along to cheer them along. It was a huge event to organise, so thank you to everyone involved in the planning and running of this event.
