St Mary’s Drama Night

21/05/2024

Our Year 10 and VCE Drama students presented their self-devised ensemble performances to an audience of family, friends and staff on Thursday 16 May in the Marian Theatre at the St Mary’s Campus.

All year levels explored the impact of technology on our lives and the loss of imagination and free play in our world today. They engaged their audience through story, movement, symbol and sound, engaging them in the world of the past, present and a future that may become our new reality.

Our VCE students portrayed characters of broken toys, cast aside and forgotten. Our Year 10 students explored conflict, connection and communication in the past, present and possible future. The groups developed their performances from scratch, collaborating in small groups and in their classes to brainstorm, research, improvise, script, edit, rehearse and refine their ensembles. They considered how they could engage the audience and utilise production areas, like sound design, to enhance their performances.

It was a wonderful night, and the audience was left thoroughly entertained by the engaging characters and clever scripting. They also walked away contemplating the impact that technology has on their own lives and the changes that have occurred in children, parents and society over time.

Congratulations to all the students involved!
