SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA: STATE FINALS

NETBALL

Intermediate Girls

On Monday 9 September, our Intermediate Netball Girls Team competed at the School Sport Victoria (SSV) State Finals Day held at the Waverley Netball Centre in Wheelers Hill. After an early departure, we arrived with plenty of time to get organised for the day after avoiding peak hour traffic. The girls were scheduled to play three games of four 7-minute quarters before, hopefully, making the Finals.

GAME RESULTS

Game 1: Win against Mordialloc College (14-13)

It was slow start to the day, with the team looking fatigued after some busy weeks of netball and football finals. However, the girls worked hard and dug deep to secure a first up win.

Game 2: Win against Hazel Glen College (16-14)

A steady game, where the team established a small lead and hung on in the last quarter to a fast-finishing Hazel Glen.

Game 3: Loss to Mercy Regional College Camperdown (19-21)

After some slow starts, the coaches changed up the team structure. The first quarter saw the girls down by a goal and the rest of the game was played out in a tough contest with not much to separate the two teams at the final whistle. The girls went down by two goals but, despite this, they still finished second in their pool and secured a spot in the State Semi Finals.

Semi Final: Loss to Rowville Secondary College (18-20)

With two pools playing a cross-over Semi Final, we knew it would be tough coming up against Rowville – the team we played in the recent Grand Final of the Nationals Tournament. In what was another tough and physical contest, there was never more than one break or intercept between the teams. The girls had their chances, but Rowville ended up winning by two in a very tight game.

Rowville went on to be overall State Champions, defeating Galen College Wangaratta by nineteen goals! The girls should be super proud of their efforts in coming so close to knocking off Rowville in the Semi!

Everyone in the team represented the College with pride and amazing sportsmanship throughout the day. Feeling fatigued, the team showed grit and determination to make each game a contest, working together and pushing themselves to the limit. Congratulations to everyone involved in the team and to all our entourage who travelled with us!
