Senior Girls
On an overcast Monday, the Catherine McAuley College Bendigo (CMCB) Senior Girls Footy Team played in the Sandhurst Competition against teams from Bendigo Senior Secondary College and Marist College Bendigo.
Game 1 was against Bendigo Senior, and after a few late withdrawals, the team was reduced to just 16 players. Since all teams were suffering similar number shortages, it was decided to play all games as a 15-a-side competition. The reduced numbers worked in our favour in the first game as the girls made great use of the space. Sasha Pearce was dominant in the ruck and around the ground and was well supported by Neve Pinner, Amelie Haigh, Kiara Field and Jorja Morrison. The girls kicked clear in the first half with goals to Amelie, Sasha, Caitlyn and Kiara. Goals to Ava Rifat, Caitlyn and Ella in the second half resulted in a convincing win. It was a great start for the team.
Final Score CMCB 8-5-53 to BSSC 1-1-7
Having to back up in Game 2 against Marist, after just a 15-minute break was always going to test the girls. This match was much more competitive and intense as Marist hit the ground full of run. They kicked two goals early in the half, but the CMCB team did not back down, as they headed back onto the ground after a half-time re-group. Marist again hit the scoreboard early in the second half, but from that point on, CMCB turned the screws and began to win the contested ball. They lifted their intensity as they pushed to turn around the run of play. A few positional changes and two late cameo goals in quick succession by the ‘interchange crew’ resulted in some serious scoreboard pressure. Time was now a factor, and despite their best efforts, and constant forward thrusts, Marist held the CMCB surge at bay. It was a terrific game, and all players are congratulated for their efforts.
Final score CMCB 2-3-15 to MCB 3-4-22
It was a fabulous day, and all players were sensational with their play and committed application. Congratulations girls on a fantastic effort.
Special thanks to Jaidi Jackson-Leahy, Oscar Cail and Bailey Warfe for assisting with coaching the team and giving valuable advice. Thanks also to Ms Leonard who assisted on the day.
