Senior Girls Football
On Friday 5 May, our Senior Girls Football team competed in the Sandhurst Senior Girls Football Competition.
Playing Marist College Bendigo in Game 1, the girls fought hard the entire game against quality opposition. Led by Jorja Morrison, Taylah Petrusma, Ava Nihill and Maiya Pearce, the girls defended exceptionally well and restricted Marist to just 1 goal 4 in the first half.
The girls came out strong in the second half and had several opportunities to put on some scoreboard pressure and close the gap. Bryde O’Rourke kicked an early goal, but unfortunately, the girls were unable to capitalize on other opportunities. Despite the team’s valiant efforts, Marist were able to hold on for the win in a very skilful and entertaining game. Final score: 1-1-7 to Marist 2-10-22.
In the second game, the girls took on Bendigo Senior Secondary College. It was another fantastic game and this time the girls dominated. They started the match with plenty of intent and their high level of skilful ball transition was great to see, with every player contributing and playing their role. Bryde O’Rourke kicked a goal early in the first half to get the girls off to a great start, and from then on, they did not look back!
The girls were relentless in their attack on the ball, with their opponents struggling to keep up. Sasha Pearce was influential, as she dominated the ruck and around the ground, her ability to win the ball and get it off to a teammate proved decisive. The defenders were brilliant, rebounding any forward ball movement that Senior threw at them with swift and skilful precision. The girls constantly created chances, and the scoreboard reflected this. This game highlighted the depth and quality of this team. It was a masterclass, and was an absolute delight to watch, although unfortunately one of the girls was injured with just two minutes to play. Overall, it was a terrific game by the entire team, and a well-deserved win eventuated. Final Score: CMC 5-6-36 to BSSC 0-2-2.
Congratulations to all players on a terrific day of football.
Thanks to Ms Rhiannon Hercus for assisting with the team on the day and a very special thank you to Daniel Artavilla, Archer Billings and Logan Kilcullen who did the umpiring duties and ran the water for all games.
