Sandhurst Senior Basketballers runners up in Sandhurst SSV Comp
06/06/2024SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA: SANDHURST DIVISION
Senior Boys Basketball
The Senior Boys Basketball Team went into the first round of the competition expecting a solid contest. With a number of school-team debutants, some quick learning was required as the team started to gel with one another.
Game 1 against Victory Christian College started as a tight contest, but with some great defensive play and rapid turnovers, the CMCB team shot out to a good lead and held it through the match. The boys took the win 56-35.
Marist College Bendigo lined up for Game 2 and came out strong, keeping the scores tight for the majority of the game. Midway through the second half, the coach called a tactical time out and regrouped his charges. They responded by exploding back into the game, using energy and momentum to gain the upper hand. After a needlessly drawn out final two minutes, the boys kept their cool and came away with a 43-34 win.
The two early wins had the team top of the pool and as a result they came up against Girton Grammar School in the Semi-final. The team had worked out how to play well together, how to utilise each other around the court and how to get the points on the board when needed. The boys recorded another strong win, 48-38 and had now qualified for the Final.
In the Grand Final, the team took on Bendigo Senior Secondary College (BSSC) and having run three solid games, there were plenty of tired legs on court. The team showed great determination and worked hard throughout the match, but the combination of fatigue and a full court press by an impressive opposition proved too strong, with BSSC taking the win.
It was a fantastic day, and the team should be very proud of their results and how they went about it on court. They were all terrific ambassadors for the College. Congratulations boys, finishing as runners up was a very creditable result.
Thanks to Llogan Mayman for scoring for the day and to Mr Colin Hogan for coaching the team.
