Ryan wins the ‘Unbound’ Emerging Artist Award for 2025

13/02/2025

Congratulations to Ryan Healy (Year 10) who was the winner of the Emerging Artist Award 2025 at the Celebrating Creativity & Inclusion at the ‘Unbound’ Disability Showcase & Awards

His work, ‘The Vast Scarred Ocean’ is a mixed media – acrylic paint, ink-based pens and collage piece.

Ryan’s work, inspired by mixed media techniques, masterfully blends a Renaissance-style boat scene with pop art and pixel elements, each representing different aspects of his life and connection to nature. The result? A visually stunning and deeply mysterious narrative that draws you in with every detail.

Writing about his piece, Ryan said, “As an artist I am inspired to create artworks combining multiple different art styles. I enjoy experimenting with a variety of different materials and techniques. I usually dream-up and imagine a vivid scene and then spend a lot of time thinking and planning how I can create the image I have in my mind in real life as an artwork.”

Ms Maree Edwards MP opened the exhibition and Sara McQueenie, artist and member of the judging panel presented the award. Ryan attended with members of his family and Mrs Amy Dickins and Mr Peter Hughes represented Catherine McAuley College Bendigo.

The Unbound exhibition runs from 10 to 23 February at Dudley House, and we encourage everyone to experience the incredible talent on display. It’s an exhibition that proves art has no limits—just like the brilliant artists behind it.
