Intermediate Girls

On Wednesday 6 November, our Intermediate Girls Cricket Team took on the team from Greensborough College at the Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct. On a hot day, the girls were pleased to be playing on their home wicket, knowing that a cold Zooper Dooper was waiting for them at the end of the day.

After losing the toss and being asked to field, the girls were keen to get some early wickets and keep the runs to a minimum.
Madeline Best (2/15) and Layla O’Brien (0/5) were on fire with the ball early as they kept their opposition at bay in the first four overs. With the run rate at a minimum, all players had a chance to bowl at least one over. Jemma McDougall (1/4) got on the board with an impressive bowled dismissal, and then Meg Tyrrell fielded the ball brilliantly in cover to effect a classy run-out. Greensborough did manage to bat out their 20 overs but the great bowling and fielding from the CMCB team saw Greensborough finish at 4/89.

The girls then went in to bat with confidence, knowing that the run rate required was manageable. Layla O’Brien (6) and Madeline White (15) opened the batting with tenacity but unfortunately went out just as they were settling in. Isabella Monotti (11) and Chella Fitzgerald (12) made the most of their time at the crease to get the girls into a winning position. Madi Morrison (5 no) and Jemma McDougall (1 no) guided the team home in the 17th over to finish at 7/90.

It was a tough game, but smart running between the wickets and the ability to hit the odd boundary when required made the difference between the two teams.

The girls have now qualified for the State Finals day to be played in Melbourne on Friday 15 November.
Good Luck girls!!
