Performing Arts in Term 3 ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

22/08/2024

It has been an excellent start to the term for the performing arts, with auditions, casting and the commencement of rehearsals for our performance of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. There was a massive turnout for auditions and we can confirm that over forty students have been cast to help bring the classic comedy to life in Bendigo in December. Since beginning rehearsals, students have begun the task of deciphering the language and blocking of the first two acts, building their interpersonal skills and confidence in working on stage for a large audience. While it may feel like early days, the performances on 5 and 6 December are approaching fast, so stay tuned for the announcement of tickets for a dream you will never forget.

About A Midsummer Night’s Dream

One of Shakespeare’s best-known plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream combines romance, fantasy, and comedy all into one.

In Athens, Theseus will marry Hippolyta, Demetrius is engaged to Hermia, Hermia loves Lysander, Helena loves Demetrius (who dropped her because he loves Hermia)… at the same time Oberon and Titania, rulers of the Fairy Folk, are arguing over a boy… at the same time Peter Quince and his inept amateur players are trying to get their act together for the upcoming weddings…

In the woods, the worlds collide as Oberon’s trick against his wife backfires – everyone seems to be falling for the wrong partners! Oberon’s magical servant Puck confuses everyone: the Athenians, the fairies, the actors. She had better make things better by morning…

When morning comes, who knows what happened overnight? The only way to truly find out is to come along to our show!
