Pancakes for Project Compassion
07/03/2019Project Compassion Launch
Caritas has harnessed the power of pancakes to spread awareness of and raise funds for its work. Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, marked the launch of Project Compassion, a 6-week fundraising event for the Catholic organisation and its work. Caritas Australia partnered with communities in about thirty countries across the world.
Caritas Australia volunteers and our Catherine McAuley St Mary’s leadership group were in Hargreaves Mall on Tuesday to give pancakes to passers-by while handing out pamphlets and collecting donations.
Caritas north/north eastern Victoria coordinator Kerry Stone has organised this event for many years and Project Compassion is run throughout Lent, traditionally a time in the Christian community of fasting and giving alms to the poor.
Pancakes at Coolock
At Coolock Years 7 and 9 students took over the Food Technology room to cook stacks of pancakes to sell at recess. The money raised from pancake sales goes towards Project Compassion.
