Opening Mass
21/02/2019Opening Mass is a very significant way to celebrate the beginning of the year. Our College joins in the celebration of the Eucharist and asks God’s blessing on the year. Students, staff, family and friends filled Sacred Heart Cathedral last Tuesday, 19 February, for our first whole-College gathering for 2019.
School Captains Charlotte Turner and Will Tobin welcomed new members to our community and spoke of the theme for the year.
“With the guidance of our Mercy Foundress, Catherine McAuley College has chosen to theme our year around the community. To share with one another the light of the Mercy lamp. The light that we all hold within us.
We hope to achieve this by acting in the spirit of inclusivity, providing attention and support to all groups within our College and wider community.
The glow of the Mercy lamp inspires us.
“No one after lighting a lamp hides it under a jar but puts it on a lampstand so that those that enter may see the light.”
Special guests included Sisters of Mercy, Mr Eugene Lynch from Mercy Education and members of the Catholic Education Office and the College Advisory Board.
We are grateful to our local priests for celebrating Mass with our community. Fr Rob Galea celebrated the Mass along with Fr Andrew Fewings and Fr Wahid.
A large number of students were involved in the Mass and we acknowledge their contribution, with special recognition of the music, which was beautiful.
Fr Rob blessed members of the student leadership team and their badges which will be presented at the next campus assemblies.
