OES Beach Camp 2025
13/03/2025Unit 3 Outdoor and Environmental Studies
Recently, Unit 3 OES students explored the Bellarine Peninsula, Port Phillip Bay and the Surf Coast to examine human relationships with this environment over the past decade. In particular, students focused on the themes of ‘Conservation, Recreation and Economic’ relationships.
To explore these themes, students participated in revegetation works at Barwon Bluff with land managers Barwon Coast, experienced stand up paddleboarding at Anglesea River, surfing at Ocean Grove, snorkelling at Popes Eye Marine National Park and Portsea pier with eco-tourism operator Sea All Dolphin Swims and a guided tour of Queenscliff fort.
Another focus of the camp was learning about how the Wudawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation work with land managers to demonstrate and continue custodianship of their traditional country. While on camp, students stayed at the Barwon Heads caravan park. The camping fees for staying at this location help Barwon Coast sustain the coastal region for future generations. Students learnt about the delicate balance of incorporating recreation, tourism, and conservation in one of Victoria’s most visited areas.
