New Honour Boards Installed at St Mary’s

23/10/2024

It has taken several years to reach this point, but finally, beautiful new Honour Boards have been unveiled in the General Office at St Mary’s. The longer-than-anticipated delay was in deciding the best way to display the names of those students who have served our College in the highest office or received our greatest honours. Finally, it was agreed to take a more contemporary approach than the traditional wooden boards, adding light and colour to this busy part of the school.

The new boards display the names of College Captains, Faith Captains, Bishop Noel Daly Award recipients and the College Dux since the formation of Catherine McAuley College Bendigo in 2018.

The boards were installed in time for the current College Captains and Faith Captains to enjoy the honour of seeing their names enshrined for all to see.

Although the original Catholic College Bendigo boards have now been retired, it was decided that it is important to display this aspect of our College’s history and honour those who have received awards since 1984. Therefore, the older boards have been installed in the corridor next to the General Office, greatly enhancing this area.

Many visitors to the General Office have connections to the past including those whose own name or those of a family member is displayed. Recently, one such visitor was 2016 College Captain and Bishop Noel Daly Award recipient, Sam Kane who was enthusiastic about the new arrangement. He appreciated how the boards evoked memories of his former classmates and other past students whose names are familiar.

Next time you are at the St Mary’s General Office, take a moment to look at the Honour Boards – both old and new.
