New Growth
21/02/2019Integrated Studies students began a community volunteering project at Remembrance Park Victoria, Eaglehawk in the second week of term, as part of their Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) course.
Once a month, students will plant trees, spread mulch, trim plants and examine Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) practices at the cemetery.
Eaglehawk Cemetery’s Landscape Gardener, Alan Smith, was a great help to the students. He gave valuable advice relating to their choice of hardy native trees and how to properly plant those trees, ensuring their survival in the harsh Bendigo summer. Students managed to plant, stake and water over eighty trees in their first volunteering session.
Students will return in March to continue their valuable work.
