National Reconciliation Week 2024
28/05/202427 MAY – 3 JUNE 2024
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
As a College community, we marked National Reconciliation Week through break time activities and by celebrating the Mass for Healing and Justice on Friday 31 May. Thank you to our FIRE Carriers who ran the activities, including yellow nail polish (painting a single nail to stand up to racism), films, traditional games and Bunjil hand painting.
Mass for Healing and Justice – Friday 31 May
CMCB had the honour of hosting the Catholic Education Sandhurst Ltd Mass for Healing and Justice, during National Reconciliation Week. The NRW 2024 theme ‘Now More Than Ever’ was woven through the beautiful Mass and thought-provoking addresses.
Thank you to the numerous individuals and organisations in our community who gave their time and talents to bring Sandhurst Catholic schools together for today’s Mass, both in person and live-streamed across the Diocese, during this significant week.

Wear it Yellow
Students were invited to have a nail painted yellow. Reconciliation Week is an opportunity for reflection, learning, and action. By wearing yellow, we show our solidarity with First Nations communities and pledge to be part of the movement towards a more inclusive Australia. Every person who joins this cause brings us one step closer to realising the vision of Children’s Ground and ensuring that every child, now and in the future, can live in a world that celebrates their heritage and supports their aspirations.
Koorie Youth Flick Fest
Congratulations! We are thrilled to announce that at Monday night’s Reconciliation Week awards ceremony held by the City of Greater Bendigo we had two students take part in the short, 3-minute film competition, with Chelsea Korp (Year 7) being one of two lucky winners on the night and Cohen Barker (Year 8) receiving an encouragement award.
The winning films will be screened at the official launch of the Central Victorian Indigenous Film Festival 2024 and shown in Fed Square Melbourne as part of the NAIDOC celebrations.
For the Koorie Youth Flick Fest, the film had to focus on the theme ‘Our Generation’, told or explored in any way. The panel was looking for films highlighting storytelling, creativity, originality and for stories that meet the theme of ‘Our Generation’.
The Koorie Youth Flick Fest is open to all Aboriginal young people aged 25 and under living in Central Victoria. Click to find out more.
