Korin Gamadji AFL Nines

24/10/2024

On Thursday 17 October, CMCB in partnership with the Richmond Football Club, Korin Gamadji Institute, and AG Coombes, hosted the inaugural AFL Nines Football Carnival at the Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct.

The event was designed to foster connection and community through sport, specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across the region.

Schools from Bendigo, Wodonga, and Echuca participated, with students from Years 7 to 12 competing in two divisions. The carnival was a lively event, featuring a DJ, giveaways, fun activities, and a special appearance by Shane Edwards, a 300-game Richmond Football Club legend. The students were even treated to a BBQ.

St Joseph’s College Echuca proved to be formidable on the day, taking home the grand finals in both Division 1 and Division 2. CMCB was proudly represented by two teams, coached by Stephen Korp and (past student) Tanner Nally, along with Year 10 students Shayla Daffy and Jordan Korp, and Year 11 students Ava Chilly and Arden Gill.

Congratulations to all participants, coaches, and organisers for making this a fantastic day of sport and community. A big thank you to the Richmond Football Club and AFL Central Victoria for running the day.

We look forward to next year’s competition.
