Junior Volleyball
On Friday 7 March, eight schools from the greater Bendigo region gathered at Red Energy Arena for the Sandhurst Junior Volleyball Tournament. The CMCB students gave it their all, showing great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day.
Boys
The CMCB boys played some exciting volleyball, with plenty of great rallies. They started strong with a solid win against Eaglehawk Secondary College but just missed out on victory against Crusoe College, losing in a close match. Captains Seth Liceralde and Zander Walker showed excellent leadership, helping to keep the team motivated.
Other players, like Simeon Bu, Angelo Cuadra, and Ted Cowan, stepped up with some impressive individual plays, and their sportsmanship was on display throughout the tournament.
In the end, CMCB finished 6th overall, with Weeroona College taking the championship. Huge thanks to Coach Matt Canterford for his guidance and support during the tournament.
Girls
The girls’ team had a tough start, facing the eventual champions, Weeroona College, in their first match. Despite some great teamwork and individual moments, they were defeated in a close third set. They bounced back in their next two games, winning against Eaglehawk and East Loddon P-12 College, keeping their chances of progressing alive.
However, their hopes of advancing depended on the results of other teams, and unfortunately, they didn’t make it through. Despite this, there were some standout performances. Captain Rose Merry Ku led by example, inspiring her teammates with her leadership. Sienna Raco also played a crucial role, and Evie Gretgrix’s height gave the team a strong advantage at the net. Marlie Skinner fought hard for every ball, showing determination throughout.
Many thanks to Coach Craig Green for his fantastic support and coaching during the day.
Also, a big thank you to the Year 9 students who helped umpire and coach throughout the day. Zara Mould, Lilly Teuma, Sophie McDermott, Adam Holland, and Nay Lae Oo Ku were a huge help in ensuring that everything ran smoothly. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Overall, the CMCB students represented the College with pride. They showed great effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship, no matter the result. Everyone should be proud of how they played and supported each other throughout the day.
