Junior Girls

In perfect conditions for cricket, the Junior Girls competed against St Mary of the Angels Secondary College (SMOTA), Nathalia on Monday 14 October at the Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct. The girls were scheduled to play one 20/20 match and were hopeful for a win to qualify for the State quarterfinals in late November.

Captain Sienna Barnett won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers started steadily, getting used to the impressive bowling from some of the SMOTA players. With every batter only allowed to face a certain number of balls, the girls worked well at running hard between wickets, taking fast singles at every opportunity and hitting the occasional boundary. At the end of the 20 overs, the girls had compiled an impressive score of 2 for 95. The top scorers were Sienna Barnett 23 no, Zara Mould 20 no and Indie Kramer 9 no.

Nathalia started off well with the bat, scoring a few runs and hitting several boundaries. However, the bowlers persisted and worked hard at trying to maintain good line and length bowling. As a result, they managed to take seven wickets, of which six were bowled. This effort, along with tight fielding saw the girls restrict SMOTA to a score of 7 for 72 off their 20 overs. The best bowlers were Sienna Barnett 4/13 off 4 overs, Mia Cox 1/1 off 1 over, and Mia Behrens 1/15 off 3 overs. Also, Mia Cox and Eva Grant paired up to effect a terrific run-out. Special mention also goes to Macey Pinner and Zara Mould who did a fantastic job wicketkeeping.

A big thank you to Zane MacDonald and Griffin O’Shea from Year 9 who assisted with scoring and square leg umpiring. Also, thank you to Mrs Maree Pearce for all her coordination of the day.
