SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA: STATE QUARTER AND SEMI FINALS

FOOTBALL

It was an early morning as the Junior Girls Football Team boarded the bus to Ballarat, all excited for the day ahead! When they arrived, the sun was shining but they had to deal with some slippery conditions because of the morning dew and a decent breeze.

In the first game the girls quickly adapted and focused on keeping the ball moving down the field to win the all-important territory battle. They applied some amazing pressure throughout the game and managed to score multiple times from turnovers. It was a dominant performance, and it gave the team a huge amount of confidence as they headed into the Semi Final against Strathmore Secondary College.

State Quarter Final Score: CMC 9.15.69 defeated Emmanuel College Warrnambool 0.0.1

  • Goal Kickers: Zara Mould (3), Layla Burn (2), Molly Beasley, Etta Place, Ruby Kelly and Quinn Guthrie (1).
  • Best Players: Zara Mould, Etta Place, Sophie Healy, Poppy Carter and Imogen Brown

As the sun dried off the oval and the teams hit the field for the Semi Final, the girls really started to shine, showcasing their impressive skills, linking up beautifully by hand and playing some great team football. Strathmore were a skilled opponent and were able to control the ball movement in patches, however the gritty defence from the CMCB team was able to negate many of their opposition’s forward bursts.  With great midfield runs and pressure around the contests, the result was that play was in our forward half more often than not.  The girls’ ability to use the ball effectively, to find spare players and convert their opportunities was a delight to watch and very pleasing for the coach.  The 25-point win rewarded the amazing effort by this fantastic group of girls.

Up next is the State Final to be played against Norwood Secondary College on Tuesday 3 September, in Melbourne. We wish the girls the very best of luck.

Thanks to Myah Humphrey, Forest Jackson-Leahy, Eva Grant and Marlie Skinner for helping on the day.
