SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – LODDON MALLEE REGIONAL FINALS

FOOTBALL

Year 7 Boys, Year 8 Boys and Junior Girls

On Monday 29 July the Catherine McAuley College Bendigo (CMCB) Junior Girls, Year 7 Boys and Year 8 Boys Football teams travelled to Swan Hill to compete at the Loddon Mallee Regional Finals. With all games being four 12-minute halves, they were going to be fast-paced games.  It was a great day all round, with all teams showcasing some fantastic skills.

Junior Girls

The girls played a great brand of team football all day.  They were able to link up well with each other and transition the ball from end to end with confidence. It was a delight to watch and we congratulate the girls for going through the day undefeated.

Year 7 Boys

The Year 7 boys knew that there was no time to waste and fast footy was essential. After narrowly losing to St Joseph’s College, Echuca in the first game, the boys did well to move on and play much better team football in the next two games and come out convincing winners in both.

It was a great learning experience for the boys to develop their teamwork and skills while playing at a higher level.

Year 8 Boys

The Year 8 boys found the short games challenging, as they had limited time to build momentum. The first game saw the boys narrowly go down to host side St Mary Mackillop College, Swan Hill, who were cleaner at the contest and controlled the play well. Captain Jake Rosa was the sole goal kicker with two from the midfield. The second match proved a thriller with a 1-point win against eventual finalist Irymple Secondary College, where we improved our ball movement and field kicking. Midfielders Jake Rosa and Jamison Westley were our two goal scorers.

Best players for the day were Jake Rosa and  Vice-Captain Paddy McNamara. Ruckman Ari Sawyer and key defender Bentley Geary both took strong marks to be key contributors in each game.
