In a terrific T20 encounter, CMCB faced off against Melbourne Girls’ College (MGC) in the SSV State Quarter Final, played at the Mercy Junortoun Sporting Precinct. CMCB batted first and struggled to find momentum, posting a modest total of just 81 runs after their full 20 overs.
Sienna Barnett was the standout performer with the bat, hitting 21 no off 24 balls. Support came from Zara (10), Eva (10), and Macey (9), but the team found it difficult to build substantial partnerships. MGC’s bowlers were disciplined and relentless, effectively stifling CMC’s scoring opportunities throughout the innings and keeping them to 2/81
In reply, MGC showcased their batting prowess and depth, effortlessly chasing down the target in just 10 overs. Their batting lineup demonstrated composure and skill, making quick work of the runs needed to secure victory. Imogen Brown was the highlight of the bowling attack, taking 2 wickets in her first over, with wickets also going to Mia Behrens and Macey Pinner, who executed a magnificent caught and bowled, but it wasn’t enough to halt MGC’s momentum. MGC finished at 4/83 off 10 overs
Despite the loss, CMCB’s journey to the State Quarter Finals was nothing short of remarkable. The team showed resilience and determination throughout the different stages of the competition. This match marked the end of a commendable run, and all players should take pride in their achievements and look forward to building on their experience for future competitions.
Special thanks to Maxwell Nicholas, Lucas Wheelhouse and Layla O’Brien for helping with the scoring and umpiring on the day.
