SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA: STATE FINALS

JUNIOR BOYS NETBALL

On Monday 2 September, our Junior Boys Netball Team travelled to Melbourne to compete in the School Sport Victoria (SSV) State Finals. After an early start, the boys were eager to begin their first game against Kambrya College. We started strongly, taking an early lead. However, the score evened up and by half-time, we were tied at eight all. In the second half, some costly mistakes lost us the lead and we were unable to regain it, ultimately losing 13-17.

In the second match against Preston High School, we again started well. Although we had significantly improved our performance since the previous game, we still made some crucial errors, resulting in a draw.

For the third and final round, we needed a significant win to have a chance at making the finals. We also relied on another school losing their final match for us to advance by percentage. The boys came out firing against Warracknabeal and secured a convincing lead early on. We maintained this lead throughout the game, resulting in a big win of 21-9. Unfortunately, the team we were relying on to lose ended up drawing, which meant we missed out on the finals by just two points.

It was a disappointing finish, but the boys showed continuous improvement throughout the day and conducted themselves exceptionally well. The entire team played a fantastic tournament and should be very proud of their efforts.

Well done to Charlie Macumber, Jake Rosa, Carter Andrews, Quinlan Cody, Jamison Westley, Eli Fennell, Paddy McNamara, Darcy Tyler, and Nick Hietbrink.

Thank you to Tayte Frawley, who attended every tournament as our scorer and to Mrs Speed and Ms Pearce for their hard work throughout the entire tournament.
