SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION

Junior & Intermediate Boys Netball

On Wednesday 22 May, the Catherine McAuley College Bendigo Boys Netball Teams competed in the Sandhurst Division Boys Netball Competition at the Golden City Netball Courts. With two teams in both the Junior and Intermediate competitions, all teams were hoping to not only be competitive but also to have a fun day along the way.

Junior A Team

We had a slow start in our first game against Marist College Bendigo as the boys were still getting to know each other’s styles. By the second half, we had figured it out and the boys stepped up in an extremely tight contest to win by three goals. Carter made a huge difference coming into Goal Attack against a very strong defence. Some very smart play made the difference in this game and set the standard for how we wanted to keep playing.

The second game, which was against Bendigo South East College, was a big challenge for us. Their goalers were extremely tall, but phenomenal defence by Darcy and Paddy meant that we kept them from scoring too much and the final score was 19-13. The attack, led by Quinlan and Jamison in the mid-court, kept a fast pace and made it very hard for BSE to keep up.

Game 3 against Weeroona wasn’t our best, we had another slow start but luckily switched on better in the second half to have a good win. Some very solid defence by Eli and Nick kept their score to a minimum, and Charlie and Jake working together in goals provided the lift we needed.

The fourth game, against Crusoe, was our last and we needed to win to finish at the top. The boys were very focused in this game, and after a close first half, we pulled away in the second half.

Congratulations to our team who have now qualified for the next round. The support and encouragement of each other, willingness to work hard and take on advice, and some very smart play made it a wonderful day. Thank you to Tate Frawley for being the team scorer for the day. Thanks to Mrs Speed and Mrs Pearce for all the hard work you did behind the scenes to make today run smoothly.

Junior B Team

In a display of talent and determination, our Junior B Boys Netball Team left an indelible mark on the Sandhurst Boys Netball Competition.

In the opening game, our team triumphed against Crusoe College with a score of 12-4, showcasing their defensive prowess led by Harry and Jaxon, while Adam and Charlie dominated in goals.

Their second match, against East Loddon P-12 College, saw an impressive 31-0 victory, with Wally and Tadgh controlling the centre court and Bentley excelling in both defence and goals.

In the final showdown against Weeroona College, our Junior B Boys continued their winning streak with a 22-0 victory, with Zander, Tobias, and Archer dominating across the court, dictating play with their versatility and skill.

Throughout the competition, our Junior B Boys displayed exceptional defensive pressure, goal accuracy, and outstanding teamwork, all while maintaining a humble and respectful demeanour towards their opponents. Their versatility and skill were matched only by their gracious attitude, exemplifying sportsmanship on and off the court.

Congratulations to our Junior B Boys Netball Team for their stellar performance and sportsmanship, setting a high standard for future competitions.

Intermediate A Team (Year 10)

The Year 10 boys started strongly in their first match against Crusoe College, with Miller Nihill and Riley Webster dominating in defence. This domination flowed down the court as they worked exceptionally well with Jack Oldham through the mid-court. The goalers of Chase Poyser and Bailey Holland were then able to capitalise and the team secured a first-up win 9-5.

The second game of the day saw the boys come up against Castlemaine Secondary College. The boys really started to connect well in this match and accurate goaling meant the boys were able to pull away with a 12-7 win, sending them into the finals.

After a comfortable win in the semi-final against Marist, the boys knew it was going to be a tough game against Bendigo South East College in the Grand Final.

The team worked hard in the first half, but BSE were a formidable opponent, and going into the half-time break CMCB were down by three goals. This break gave the boys a chance to regroup and from the start of the second half, they were able to pull the scores back to level on the back of some fantastic play. The boys fought hard and were able to recollect themselves after some turnovers, however they just fell short of time to take the win. The boys valiantly went down by one goal, 8-7 nevertheless, they should hold their heads high after a terrific game.

Well done to all team members on the day, your effort to work together as a team and show improvement throughout the day was a delight to watch.

In their first game against Crusoe, the boys emerged victorious with a commanding score of 29-2. The strong defence led by Samuel Whitford, Will Peterson, and Nate Fitzpatrick was instrumental in securing the win.

The second game saw the team facing East Loddon, where they continued their winning streak with a score of 31-2. Sharp drives through the mid-court by Tyce Griffin, Mack Skinner, and Sam O’Bree kept the momentum in their favour.
