SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION

Intermediate Volleyball

Congratulations and well done to our Intermediate Volleyball Teams who competed at the Sandhurst Division Intermediate Volleyball day on Tuesday 25 March at Red Energy Arena. Both teams had fabulous days, with some fantastic results.

Intermediate Girls
The girls first faced Weeroona College Bendigo and had a convincing win 2-0 with a 20/15 in the first set and 20/11 in the second. In this first game, Sophie McDermott demonstrated great height in her work at the net, and Ginger Hay delivered consistent serving.

In the second round, the girls competed against Eaglehawk Secondary College. Another 2-0 win resulted, with scores of 20/11 and 20/14. Solid passing from Hannah Guo and sound setting from Grace Mulqueen were the highlights in this match.

In the final round, the girls took on East Loddon P-12 College for another 2-0 win with set scores of 20/8 and 20/11. Dynamite serving and on-court leadership from Bethany Cole, with backup passing by Ruby Ritchie, were fantastic in this match.

Having won the pool, the girls then faced Bendigo South East College in the Grand Final. This was a great match with lengthy rallies. Some excellent blocking and hitting by Lilly Teuma, reliable passing by Clyza Liceralde and all-court performance by Zara Mould proved to be the difference. The girls again won in two sets – 20/14, 20/12.

The girls represented the College with tremendous manners, excellent attitudes, and great sportsmanship. Congratulations on this positive outcome.

A special thank you to Mrs Geraldine Coles for coaching, and to Seb Dalton and Adam Holland who refereed on the day.

Intermediate Boys
The boys played against Crusoe College, Eaglehawk Secondary College and Victory Christian Bendigo in their initial pool of four teams.
In the first game, the boys took on Crusoe, but despite their best efforts, lost both the first and second sets, 12-20 and 6-20, respectively. All members of the team played well, with Eddie really leading by example and getting points on the board.

In the second game, we had our first win of the day against VCC, winning both sets, 20-16 and 20-14. Beau had a stellar run of serves with a number of aces, while Owen kept the team alive in the middle of the court.

The most exciting match of the day took place against Eaglehawk. The boys stuck to their guns and won the first set, lost the second set and dragged themselves back to just win the third, running out the clock for the match. The scores finished at 20-16, 18-20, 9-8. Finn had some great digs to recover after spikes from Eaglehawk and Nay Ta and Daniel had some fantastic sets right at the net for Eddie to spike over.

A special mention to Sebastian (top ref) and Adam (net ref) for a great job refereeing throughout the day.

An amazing job from the team over the course of the day culminating in CMCB placing fourth for the day with two wins and one loss! A fantastic effort from all the boys who represented CMCB with outstanding sportsmanship, competitiveness and respect for the other teams.
