Intermediate teams win tough games
15/08/2023SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – SANDHURST DIVISION
Intermediate Basketball
On Thursday 3 August, the Year 9 and 10 girls and boys participated in Sandhurst Division Basketball Competition at Red Energy Arena in Bendigo.
Intermediate Girls
The girls had an incredible first two games, beating Girton Grammar School 35-8 and Crusoe College 44-5. This put us into the semi-final against Bendigo South East College which was a tougher game, but we came out with the win 37.20.
The Grand Final was against Marist College Bendigo. This was a hard-fought game. We all worked so well together as a team, and it showed on the scoreboard as we won the game 23-17. We all had such a fun day, and we cannot wait to play together again at regionals.
Thank you to Mrs Fennell for her excellent coaching and support. The team will now progress to the next level of the competition – the Loddon Mallee Regional Finals here in Bendigo on 18 October.

Intermediate Boys
Except for tryouts, the Intermediate Boys team had not trained or played together due to the logistics of having a cross-campus team. However, they were in high spirits in preparation for the competition.
The fixture set the scene for a tough first game. The boys played well, with CMC’s defence standing tall, holding out Marist in the first half with our boys outscoring the opposition. The second half was more of the same with tough defence and open shots. Unfortunately, the basket seemed to have a lid on it, and we could not convert our shots. This was the best game of the day with CMC eventually going down to Marist 20 to 13.
For the next three games, the boys were in full control from the tip-off. CMC put on an exhibition with three-point shots and the occasional dunk. The boys comprehensively beat Weeroona College 38 to 18, East Loddon P-12 College 36 to 12 and Creek Street Christian College 48 to 9.
The team demonstrated an eagerness to represent the College and exhibited excellent skills. The teamwork was to be commended, with all players contributing to the end results, with all the boys representing the College well.
A big thank-you to Ms Holly Speed and Mrs Maree Pearce for organising the boys, the venues, and travel. Special thanks also to Jack Harvey who attended as our referee and performed exceptionally well on the day, being rewarded with the task of refereeing the Grand Final.
