Intermediate Girls Soccer
The CMC Intermediate Girls Soccer Team showcased their skills and determination as they competed in the Sandhurst Division tournament on Monday 15 May. The team displayed excellent teamwork, sportsmanship and skill whilst securing victories throughout the day.
In their first game, the team faced Crusoe College and delivered an impressive performance, dominating the match and emerging with a convincing 7-0 victory. The girls demonstrated their attacking prowess and defensive stability, setting a strong tone for the rest of the tournament.
The second game proved to be a more challenging encounter against Weeroona College Bendigo. However, the CMC team exhibited resilience and determination, ultimately securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
In the next game, against Bendigo South East College, they continued to showcase their skills and teamwork, securing a well-deserved 2-0 victory. The girls demonstrated their ability to control the game and effectively execute their strategies.
Having progressed successfully through the group stage, the team entered the semi-final match against Marist College Bendigo. With their sights set on the final, the CMC team produced another commendable performance, emerging with a 3-0 victory. Their strong attacking play and solid defence enabled them to secure a place in the highly anticipated grand final.
The grand final clash against Girton Grammar School proved to be a tough and intense encounter. Both teams displayed exceptional tactical awareness, and the CMC girls worked tirelessly in defence throughout the game. Despite their efforts, the match ended in a goalless draw, forcing the game to be decided by a penalty shootout.
With the pressure on, the CMC team relied on their goalkeeper Gemma Fox, who joined the team as a last-minute recruit. Gemma exhibited remarkable skill and composure, making a crucial save during the shootout, which ultimately proved to be the winning moment. The team triumphed in a thrilling sudden-death penalty shootout, emerging victorious with a final score of 4-3.
The CMC Intermediate Girls Soccer Team’s outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned them a well-deserved place in the Loddon Mallee Regional Final, scheduled to be held in Epsom on Thursday 1 June. The team’s commitment, dedication, and teamwork were instrumental in their success.
