SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA – STATE FINALS

Table Tennis – Intermediate Girls

The Intermediate Girls Table Tennis team competed at the SSV State Finals on Wednesday 15 November at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. The girls had qualified for the finals after winning at the Sandhurst Division, earning direct entry into the State Finals as no other schools had teams at the regional level.

The girls’ first-round match was against St Thomas Aquinas College Tynong. This was a great match as both teams were at a similar skill level. The girls started strong, winning three of their four singles games to set themselves up for the overall win. Meg and Gen then combined brilliantly to win their doubles, whilst Mikayla and Milla were very competitive in their game but went down in a tight match. It was a great start as the team finished with a first-up win 4 sets, 14 games 246 points to 2 sets 9 games 240 points.

The Round 2 match against Suzanne Cory High School was entirely different to Round 1 as this team was skilled and experienced. Although the games started and ended quickly, our girls tried their best and at times went point for point with their opponents. Gen even managed to take a game off her opponent, as she forced her opponent into making some simple errors. Despite the difference in ability, there were quite a few laughs along the way in the match, as the girls appreciated the skill on display, which they just couldn’t match.

Round 3 was against Glen Waverley Secondary College – another highly talented team. This match was played in great spirits, as Glen Waverley saw the opportunity to take it a bit easier with our team. It was a fun match and the girls walked away with a new appreciation of the skill level of their opposition.
The girls finished the day with one win and two losses, which saw them finish third in their pool. This was a great achievement, especially with the limited preparation and match play that the girls had. Congratulations to all players on a fantastic effort, the way you all competed and respected your opposition was a real highlight.
