Intermediate Boys Football

GAME 1

Catherine McAuley College Bendigo’s (CMCB) first game, against Crusoe College, saw Ryan Brown starting the day with a ripper goal to get the boys up and about early. Chase Poyser and Charlie Mortimer followed up with goals for themselves, as CMCB ended the half with a 20-point lead. In the second half, we had the crowd behind us which really pumped-up Seamus’ boots which enabled him to kick the first goal; from there others followed as we went on to score a convincing 34-point win.

Final Score: CMCB 6-6-42 def Crusoe 1-2-8

Best players: Seamus Doherty, Carter Reid, Charlie Mortimer and Lenny Mcnamara.

GAME 2

In Game 2 we came up against a tougher side in Girton Grammer School.  In this match we saw Seamus put on a clinic and kick three goals in the first half with Carter Reid also kicking one. In the second half we saw the backline come into the game, as they faced hard pressure from Girton who were able to kick two goals, but it wasn’t enough to defeat CMCB as we went on to win by 24 points.

Final Score: CMCB 6-2-38 def Girton 2-2-14

Best Players: Lenny McNamara, Carter Reid, Josh Kelly and Riley Travaglia.

GAME 3

The third game of the day proved to be our biggest challenge against Bendigo South East Secondary College (BSE).  We got off to a hot start, kicking the first four goals on the back of our midfield dominating the clearances. Our backline was also holding strong as they restricted BSE to just one goal. In the second half BSE come out firing and kicked two quick goals. We only kicked one but the damage was done in the first half and we went on to win by 15 points.

Final Score: CMCB 5-7-37 def BSE 3-4-22

Best players: Carter Reid, Charlie Cowan, Lachie Hargraves and Hudson Banfield.

GAME 4

The last game of the day was against Marist College Bendigo and we knew if we won this match we would win the day and hence qualify for the Loddon Mallee Region Finals, which are to be played in Swan Hill next term, so we were keen to bring our A game. Seamus was again dominant up forward as he kicked a bag of four in the first half alone, whilst Marist could only manage one. The midfield once again controlled the ball around the contest and fed the forwards efficiently which led to us kicking another four second-half goals.  The backline once again reaped the praise of the coaching staff as they held up strong, to keep Marist goalless in the second half. It was a terrific day and all players were fantastic with their contributions.

Final Score: CMCB 8-6-53 def Marist 1-1-7

Best players: Chase Poyser, Jake Schubert, Archie Stevens and Seamus Doherty.

Thanks to Mr Winter-Irving and Mr Timmins for coaching and thanks also to the helpers for their work with the team.  Thanks also to all the parents and other spectators that came along to support us on the day.
