Intermediate Boys Football State Finals

On Thursday 16 August, the Intermediate Football team participated at the School Sports Victoria football quarter and semi-finals at Marty Busch Reserve, Ballarat.

Quarter Final vs Trinity College Colac

The CMC boys were keen to continue their form from the previous round and it showed in their first match against Trinity College Colac. The boys started the game at a frantic pace, with multiple smothers and tackles in the first five minutes setting the tempo. The immense defensive pressure led to many goal-scoring opportunities and the forwards were able to capitalise on it. At quarter time CMC led Trinity 6.2.38 to 0.0.0. Our ball movement was exceptional throughout the match, which created many entries inside fifty. Strong performances from Lincoln White, Mason Wakefield, Sam Conforti, Isaac Carracher, Abe Sheahan and Joe Fiske-Kealy were all influential in the victory.

Semi Final vs Grovedale

The boys were full of confidence heading into the State Semi Final against Grovedale. This contest was tight from the opening bounce with neither side able to take control and gain momentum. CMC scored the opening goal of the game, however Grovedale equalised within minutes. Our midfielders worked tirelessly, winning contested possessions at the stoppages and our defenders were able to rebound Grovedale’s entries inside fifty. Both sides were inaccurate in front of goal, with the margin only a few points at three quarter time. It was going to come down to a massive last quarter. A late goal by Sam Conforti from the pocket brought the scores level with only minutes remaining and it looked like we were a chance of taking the lead. Unfortunately, it was not to be, as Grovedale scored a late goal to seal the victory. Congratulations to the boys on a fantastic effort and great game of football.
