SCHOOL SPORT VICTORIA: SANDHURST DIVISION

Intermediate Girls Football

On Wednesday 12 June, the Intermediate Girls Football team competed at the Sandhurst Division Competition held at the Mercy Junortoun Sports Precinct.

Game 1: Bendigo South East Secondary College 1 v Catherine McAuley College (CMCB) 79

The girls came out firing, kicking six goals to zero in the first half, followed by another six goals to zero in the second. Link-up play from Hannah Cochrane, Jordi O’Bree and Lacey Nihill saw the team dominate the midfield and provide the forwards with plenty of opportunities to score.  The girls looked like they had been playing football together for years.

Goal Scorers: Lacey Nihill 3, Alysha Boyd 2, Hannah Cochrane 2, Eve Kalms 2, Layla O’Brien 1, Dempsey McDonnell 1, Louse Khodja 1

Best Players: Lacey Nihill, Hannah Cochrane, Chella Fitzgerald, Jordi O’Bree and Evie Nuttall

Game 2: Marist College Bendigo 8 v CMCB 29

This was the girls’ hardest match of the day; Marist tackling pressure was relentless, however the team absorbed the pressure well. The girls stood up to the challenge and laid numerous tough physical tackles with Evie Nuttall and Eve Kalms dominating the ruck and tackling all over the ground. Myah Humphry, Maeve Cain and Ryah Mackie stood strong in the backline, limiting Marist scoring opportunities in the second half to just one point.

Goal Scorers: Hannah Cochrane 2, Layla O’Brien 1, Alysha Boyd 1

Best Players: Dempsey McDonnell, Hannah Cochrane, Lacey Nihill, Alysha Boyd, Maddie Dunn

Game Three: Crusoe College 0 v CMCB 51

After a tough physical previous game, the girls came out ready to apply pressure and dictate the game against Crusoe College. Chella Fitzgerald was unbelievable, laying tackles left, right and centre.  Maddie Dunn was like a brick wall; the opposition just bounced off her and couldn’t bring her to the ground.  Alysha Boyd continued to find the footy, whilst Dempsey McDonnell took a brilliant mark down forward. The girls outclassed the opposition and ran away with the win.

Goal Scorers: Dempsey McDonnell 2, Alannah Prowse 1, Scarlett Ward 1, Gemma Fox 1, Maddie Dunn 1, Evie Nuttal 1

Best Players: Chella Fitzgerald, Hannah Cochrane, Maddie Dunn, Alysha Boyd, Scarlett Ward, Evie Nuttall

A big thank you to Max Adams and Charles Neilson for being our College umpires for the day. Congratulations to all players for winning the tournament. The team will now progress to the Loddon Mallee Regional Final in Swan Hill on Wednesday 31 July.
