Stepping Up for Headstart
02/12/2021Throughout the last fortnight, students from Years 9 to 11 have “stepped up” to the next year level as a part of our Headstart program.
Students have engaged in learning across a new range of subjects, and our Year 9 students have had their first experiences as full time students at the St Mary’s Campus.
Throughout this program students have had the opportunity to explore new subjects and experiences and have thrived in this environment. They have stepped up to the challenge of the increased maturity and expectations that stepping up a year level brings.
“The VET Sport and Recreation Year 1 class ran a badminton tournament for Year 10 Physical Education students. They were responsible for setting up, running the warm up, organising the draw, scoring each game and packing up at the end. The students participated well and it was great to see the excellent sportsmanship and student-led organisation.” Miss Kylie Henriksen
“In Outdoor and Environmental Studies (OES), new students to the subject learnt some basic first aid for common illnesses and injuries that could occur on OES camps. Students needed to identify a variety of signs and symptoms before ‘treating’ their patients who were experiencing the following: hypothermia, dehydration, snake bite, anaphylaxis, arm injuries and blisters.” Mr Rohan Bowles
“Year 10 2022 Art students made tiles. The aim of the project was to learn about pattern inspiration and creation.” Mr Peter Hughes
Well done to all of our students and teachers involved in the program. This will support our students in a smooth transition at the start of 2022.
