Graduation Mass and Celebration 2024
28/11/2024On Thursday 21 November, Year 12 students celebrated the end of their school years with a joyful Graduation Mass and Celebration.
Extended families, loved ones and invited guests were welcomed into the grand space of the Sacred Heart Cathedral to witness this milestone moment for the graduands. The service commenced with a procession of the Class of 2024, along with a presentation of meaningful items that symbolised their past six years.
The mass was concelebrated by The Most Reverend Shane Mackinlay DD Bishop of Sandhurst, Rev. Dr Brian Boyle and Rev Dr Jake Mudge. The students took an active role in the parts of the mass while the music was provided by a combined Coolock and St Mary’s choir which included staff.
Parents of graduating students Daniel and Joseph Artavilla, Pino and Joanne Artavilla reflected on their experience as parents navigating the school years and being part of the College community. Students Jessica Millar and Wil Pinniger spoke on behalf of the Class of 2024 with a nostalgic reflection, unique to this cohort.
During the Graduation Blessing, each student from the Class of 2024 received a mission cross, certificate and Class of 2024 lapel pin. The cross represents the unique call and mission of each student in going forward from the College community of faith. The Class of 2024 were encouraged to be people of Mercy and take up the challenge to serve others, so that they too ‘may have life, and have it to the full.’ (John 10:10)
The ceremony concluded with one of the most memorable elements of graduation – the Ceremony of Light. The light symbolises an ending and a beginning – the Easter light, the symbol of Christ. It is also the light of love, wisdom, faith and of hope. As Liam Truscott played the trumpet, a procession of students used their candles to light their way into their future.
Following the Graduation Mass, graduates, their parents and carers as well as staff, celebrated the occasion at the Bendigo Town Hall.
