Girls inspired by IWD2020
19/03/2020I had the privilege of taking some of our Year 7, 8 and 9 students to the Bendigo Tech School for the IWD STEAM Forum on Wednesday 11 March. We heard stories from local female STEAM professionals from DELWP, the Bendigo Art Gallery and Medical fields.
We then participated in various industry-based STEAM workshops. The students were amazing, enthusiastic and inspired by what they heard. What a great way to celebrate International Women’s Day!
Our students were also photographed and interviewed by the Bendigo Advertiser and WIN News.
The workshops and speakers celebrated women’s achievement, raised awareness of bias and called out inequality – with a key message – together we can all help to bring about change.
International Women’s Day takes place on 8 March each year and was first celebrated in 1975 during International Women’s Year. The #IWD2020 theme #EachForEqual draws attention to the difference individuals can make. It emphasises the idea that gender inequality isn’t a women’s issue, but an economic one. Gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive and is highly regarded as a benchmark of progress.
