Final Day Farewells for the Class of 2022
21/10/2022The final day of school for Year 12s began with staff and students gathering for a breakfast full of camaraderie, conversation and contemplation of their school days, friendship and the future. The damp weather did not dampen spirits!
The had a catch up with their Student Advocate groups before heading to the Marian Centre for a final assembly with St Mary’s students, staff, parents and carers. Everyone enjoyed the Year 7 and Year 12 photo presentation as they settled in.
Year 12 captains and SRC leaders led the assembly which included the Acknowledgement of Country prayers, heartfelt speeches from the College Captains and celebration of the Class of 2022.
Highlights were the Year 12 music students performance, the acknowledgement of outstanding Year 12 student achievements and the entertaining, student-produced vox pop video ‘A Year 12 Interview brought to you by the Year 12 Cohort’
Sadly, due to weather concerns, Coolock students did not travel to St Mary’s, however Year 7s recorded a blessing which was screened for the Year 12s.
Mr Brian Turner addressed the students about community and supporting those in need, using the example of Nedd Brockmann’s run from Perth to Sydney in support of people who are homeless. He also spoke about the inspiring community spirit and action in Echuca during the current flooding crisis.
The Class of 2022 left in procession, through the assembled community, to applause and a throwback to the Year 9 production with the ‘Don’t stop believing’.
There were plenty of emotional moments during the day but, overall, the final day of school was an occasion of joy and celebration.
We look forward to gathering with the Class of 2022 again for the Graduation Mass and Celebration on 23 November. We wish all our Year 12s every success in the next few weeks, as well as the years ahead – don’t be strangers!
