Coolock Arts Night
A celebration of artistic expression
Students at Coolock in performing and visual arts presented an amazing evening of works at the Coolock Arts Night in the Marian Theatre, St Mary’s. These final pieces demonstrated the skills and techniques that they have been developing in their core and chosen electives classes throughout the semester.
Year 8 Drama students presented their plays using the picture books, The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak as stimuli (starting points for creating their performances). Students explored the themes of belonging, bullying and proving yourself.
Our Year 7 Music students have had a semester of instrumental tuition and class band rehearsals, as part of their classroom music course. These students came together to form combined concert bands to perform musical items. Our Year 8 Music students performed a class guitar ensemble and the Year 9 Music students presented a class band piece with a collection of instruments.
Parents and friends who came along to support the night also enjoyed a visual arts exhibition in the foyer. The works by Years 7, 8 and 9 students included two and three-dimensional works from art, media, ceramics and visual communication classes.
A big thank you to all the many parents and friends of the Performing Arts who came along to support our students. Congratulations to all the students who performed on the night – such impressive talent!
