Careers Expo abuzz with students planning their futures

06/06/2024

The Catherine McAuley College Bendigo (CMCB) annual Careers Expo, held on Tuesday 21 May, was an enormous success with 50 stalls and 140 professionals in attendance to provide valuable information to students and families.

The Marian Gymnasium was filled with curious students and families, eager to engage with stall holders and gather important career, course and vocational information to assist in planning their futures.

As in previous years, students were praised for their initiative and level of interest with many positive conversations taking place.

“It was fantastic to chat to so many young people interested in a future career in Agribusiness, Agriculture or Equine Business Management.” (Marcus Oldham, Education Leaders in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Equine)

“We love attending this event each year, meeting the future finance and accounting students along with their parents and sharing our insights into what a career as an accountant or financial planner can look like.” (Strategem Financial Services)

Adrian Bassett Homes were first-time exhibitors at our Expo, bringing with them carpenter and past student Emmie Banfield (CMCB 2019), who was awarded Apprentice of the Year in March.

We were also pleased to welcome Zoe Rodriguez (CMCB 2023) back to the College. Zoe did a placement at Bendigo Law Courts and gained a traineeship to become a court registrar and is now working at the Bendigo Law Courts.

Nutrien Ag Solutions were also in attendance. They have generously provided a placement opportunity to Bree Tuohey (Year 11) as part of our Structured Workplace Learning program.

Attendance across all year levels was fabulous, with a steady stream of people through the gym for the duration. Once again, we were pleased to host Marist College Bendigo students, staff and families, who embraced the opportunity to combine with our College for the evening.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the event, including the organisations and businesses, the staff who volunteered their time to attend and the maintenance team for getting it all set up.

We are very privileged to be able to host a large event within our community, giving regional students access to a broad range of education, training and workplace information all under the one roof.
