Brand new classrooms underway
16/10/20172018 students will commence the year as students of Catherine McAuley College and be the first to experience the new Performing Arts and Innovation Hub at the Coolock Campus (Years 7 – 9), due to open next July.
Last week, Jacinta Allan MP visited to mark the formal commencement of construction of the $10 million facility. As a past student, Jacinta spoke entertainingly of her own time at our College and remarked that it was an occasion to “reflect on the history of the school” and to celebrate the “very strong future of the school – and the community as well.”
The classrooms will be a combination of general and flexible learning spaces with connections to an outdoor deck and dedicated art, drama and music spaces. Gallery spaces, which will run down the centre of the new building’s ground and second floors, will be used for gatherings and to display student work.
Students will also enjoy a visual communication classroom – a high-tech facility featuring audio-visual equipment, blackout curtains and a green screen. It will provide students with everything they need to hone their film, photography and graphic design skills.
The Performing Arts and Innovation Hub will include environmentally friendly design features such as a building management system display to monitor energy consumption and water tanks to recycle water for bathrooms and the grounds.
