Bendigo Tech School bringing together culture, technology and career pathways
20/06/2024Three CMCB students spent an incredible two days at Bendigo Tech School bringing culture, technology and career pathway ideas together. Cohen Barker (Year 8), Chelsea Korp and Bella Gittens (Year 7) immersed themselves in activities such as insta360 degree cameras and art creation inspired by Troy Firebrace. They headed outdoors to learn about fire management with Djandak out in the Whipstick, water testing at the Frog Ponds with the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and learning about artefacts with Jason Kerr, Cultural Heritage expert and Traditional Owner.
The two-day event began at the Bendigo Tech School, where students met the team and got hands-on with some tech. They worked quickly on a digital creative piece with Bendigo artist legend, Troy Firebrace.
After lunch everyone headed to the Whipstick Forest to learn about measuring the health of country through various methods, at a site where a recent Cultural Burn had been conducted.
Day 2 started at Wanyarra Dum (Frog Ponds in Knight St, White Hills) where students learnt about how we heal land and connect with country, at a site which has been revived and also learnt about plant identification.
Back at Bendigo Tech School, students worked with the Djaara ‘Malimiya’ to learn about artefacts with the heritage team, creating digital 3D scans of the artefacts.
A massive thank you to the Tech School staff for setting the stage, creating the connections and providing the “tech know-how”.
